Why It’s Worth It | Is there an ideal formula for achieving peak health and fitness? With so many options out there, how do we know what to do and where to start?
In this behind-the-scenes episode, Dan sits down with DJ Cashmere, a journalist, Buddhist practitioner, and senior producer of the Ten Percent Happier (TPH) podcast. Their conversation introduces a 6-part series, “Get Fit Sanely.”
The TPH podcast tends to focus on more esoteric concepts related to happiness, meditation and inner-wellness. So, DJ felt they needed to explore more about fitness, eating, and the intersection of health and wellness. These are topics that have been a challenge for DJ throughout his life (we can all probably relate).
How can we achieve the body we desire? Is there a recipe for success? Or is it something that we are unable to find? How can we develop a healthier relationship with food, our bodies, and our health routines? These are just some of the questions he wanted to see answered.
DJ decided the best way to get at this “truth” would be to bring the best experts in the field together, subject them to Dan’s grilling, and try to hash out the best approach to living as long as possible, getting fit, and eating well.
In their conversation, Dan and DJ dig into the origin of the series, what it took to vet dozens of guests, and how DJ landed on the three main topics: Wellness/Longevity, Exercise/Movement, and Food/Nutrition. They get to the heart of the morass of mixed messages we receive when it comes to taking care of our physical selves and explain how we add to this misery by judging ourselves and others, increasing doubt and uncertainty about the best path forward.
And as for DJ? Even though he sought clear answers, he came to learn there is no one-size-fits-all approach: sucess comes from studying well-vetted experts and making intentional, manageable choices about our lives and goals. This clarity builds commitment and self-confidence, allowing us to find our best path, tune out the noise, and settle into what works best for each of us.
Background | In this 6-episode series, DJ invites six experts on living well, exercise, and eating to cut through the constant stream of headlines and see if they can sort out the best approach. Fair warning: they don’t always agree with each other.
